The FIFA World Cup 2022 has drawn a record-breaking TV audience captivated by the twists and turns unfolding on the field. Right from the moment Saudi Arabia’s shock victory over Argentina, Morocco’s incredible run to the semifinals, Japan’s wins over Germany & Spain, and later Messi’s quest for a World Cup trophy.

Not only that, the 2022 FIFA World Cup final has a total prize pool of $72M, where the winning team will walk away with the highest prize in the competition of $42M, while the runner-up will take home $30M.

In the final of the Qatar World Cup 2022, Argentina faced defending champions France at Lusail Stadium. Argentina aims to become the second team in World Cup history to win the coveted trophy after losing their opening match.

Argentina took a 2-0 lead in the first half thanks to goals from Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria, who scored in minutes 23 and 36, respectively. The French looked insipid for most of the game until the second half when they found their rhythm again. The match headed into extra time with the score remaining 2-2 after Kylian Mbappé scored twice in regulation time.

Lionel Messi scored another goal in minute 108, while Kylian Mbappé scored his third goal of the match in minute 118. The final shout-out continued with penalties as a decision factor. Argentina won their third FIFA World Cup, beating France 4-2 on penalties.

The Argentinian football team won FIFA 2022 36 years after their previous championship in 1986. The Golden Ball Award was presented to Lionel Messi, Emi Martinez won the Golden Glove Award, and young player Enzo Fernandez took the Young Player Award.

Kylian Mbappé won the golden boot despite France’s loss to Argentina after scoring 8 goals during the tournament, including a hat-trick in the final. Kylian Mbappé became the second player in FIFA World Cup history to score a hat-trick in a single game.

Lord of Two FIFA Sportwear Brands - Adidas vs Nike.

The final game will not only feature two of the world’s best teams but also two of the biggest sportswear companies. Argentina’s national team has been sponsored by Adidas for decades, while France is sponsored by Nike Inc.

Adidas

Prior to the final match, Adidas, the leading German sportswear giant, rushes to get a Messi jersey available ahead of the World Cup Final. With much anticipation, as highlighted by Reuters, Adidas expects World Cup sales of around €400M ($421M).

“Due to extraordinary demand for the Adidas Argentina World Cup jerseys across the globe, we have very low stock in some countries,” said the Adidas spokesperson.

Adidas who had been in a slump due to the Kenya West scandal had finally been in celebratory mode. It is all thanks to the FIFA World Cup 2022 fever and their greatest sponsored players of all time, Lionel Messi and the Argentinian national football team. Adidas celebrating this football fever momentum by launching plenty of marches and collective items.

Additionally, Argentina’s fans are thirsty for the Adidas three-stripe label jersey since it will be Lionel Messi, Argentina’s national hero’s last FIFA match.

Adidas’ (ADS:ETR) share price had been on the roll. It had increased €5 from Friday’s opening of €117.16. Previously, the company’s forecast earnings were expected to grow 30.5% per year. The company momentum is expected to be on the roll after Argentina won the prestige FIFA cup.

Nike Inc

On the other hand, Nike made a big mistake on Friday after putting a commemorative ‘three-star’ on the France shirt on sale ahead of Sunday’s World Cup final against Argentina. Nike’s error may give Argentina the determination to win the FIFA World Cup final and adding the third star to their own three-label jersey.

Nike Inc (NKE: NYSE) slipped $2.56 from  $107.61 on Friday. Nike’s share price had been down 32.51% since hitting an all-time high toward the end of last year. Nike’s dividend is low compared to the top 25% of dividend payers in the luxury market. In addition, Nike’s revenue is also forecasted to grow slower than 20% per year. Even so, with its beta of 1.117, Nike remains within a reasonable range for a stable business to invest in.
